Holding On 04:03
Tired and angry in the morning but you can’t explain getting used to getting up denying all the pain / All the dreams in your head slipping away Will you throw open the door watch another day just go by / Down a busy main road your head in chains a boy with a bag a one way street / In his mind the control where you want to be push your face into the wind see the actor on every screen / but who can believe that the girl beside him is writing a symphony / and with no word or warning suddenly both can see how things could be / All your life you been so damn lazy sick of all the work you’re slaving Fought the fight now you’re sorry to say there's no time now your point escapes / Still wishing for your little bit of lace short of falling on your face / Cauterised feel your fire now fading the buck stops here the point is kid you're waiting / Are you holding on to something that's worth saving / All your life you been so frustrated sick of all the work you’re slaving Fought the fight now you’re sorry to say there's no time now your point escapes / Always dreamed you’d be written in the pages by the world or children’s faces / Cauterised feel your fire now fading the buck stops here the point is kid you're waiting / Are you holding on to something that's worth saving / If at first you were apologetic now’s no time for second guessing

about

"I felt like a pig in shit while listening to Where Have All the Good Folk Gone. The quintet owes an ode to Wilco, but The Barebones don’t sound like copycats in the least, but a band that has done their homework on alt-country and pop sensibilities and they hit the mark nearly every time.

Where Have All the Good Folk Gone opens with the upbeat drone rocker “Holding On”. This gritty fight song mentality continues on the title track especially with its bluesy guitar riffs and the blue collar lyrical call outs like “will you take a stand or quietly just stand back.” The Wilco-ness, in their most lapidary form comes through again on the heartfelt 'The Only Way' and the alt-country heart bleeding 'Sorry for Leaving'.

The Barebones aren’t afraid to pull out the rock either as they do on the organ rocker 'Strangely Alone' and the sunny sounding but lyrically sad 'Reach' which sounds like a pop-radio hit if I’ve ever heard one. Though by far their poppiest hit 'Wandering Blind' sounded like the best direction for The Barebones. It’s raucous in a bluesy Stones type of all. Where Have All the Good Folk Gone is an exquisite piece of alt-country pop rock. You should be so lucky to hear such pop perfection in your lifetime."

about

The Barebones Melbourne, Australia

Matt, Mike and Danna are musical brothers. And actual brothers who used to play in pop-rock outfit 'The Suits'. After The Suits, Matt found keysman Basil Mushrooms in an abandoned dairy and they steadily birthed an album's worth of tunes. With Mike's drumming in mind it wasn't too long before he was on board. Danna and Glenn joined soon after to provide the magic gravy - the melodic push and pull ... more
